Classroom Needs

heymissat:

I know quite a few other tumblr teachers out there have tried this, so I thought I would give it a go as well.

School is starting in just over two weeks and my classroom is in a state of chaos. Currently the carpet has been ripped out along with bookshelves and other things that (literally) fell apart when touched. Oh the joys of inheriting a man’s classroom of 10+ years…

The classroom supplies I have consist of…

  • desks
  • textbooks
  • dictionaries

I’m not sure if you know this, but that is not all what is needed for a functional class. I don’t have a budget to pull from, so anything I want is essentially from my own pocket.

SOOOOOOO…. I was wondering if there were any kind folks out there that would like to help a teacher like myself out and purchase something from my Amazon Wish List?

PS. If there’s something you think I should add for a class of 8th graders, please let me know!

Beings as how I left the lucrative and secure world of HR to pursue teaching, I don’t doubt this will be me some day… in some form… I think I’d kill 8th graders though…. High schoolers would definitely get me fired because I COULD NOT put up with their shit.

That is not the point!

Signal boosting for people with a bit of spare scratch who believe teachers deserve a bit of help educating the people that will be running this country when we’re too old to do more than drool on ourselves.

Re-blogging for the morning crowd because this is just too good.

"

For the first eight years of our marriage, [Michelle and I] were paying more in student loans than what we were paying for our mortgage. So we know what this is about.

And we were lucky to land good jobs with a steady income. But we only finished paying off our student loans—check this out, all right, I’m the President of the United States—we only finished paying off our student loans about eight years ago.

"I have very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt because there’s no reason for that."
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) just doesn’t like people who take out student loans to afford an education.  (via think-progress)

We build awesome. This is what The Geek Group is all about.

This little dude’s reaction pretty much sums up why I communicate science. It’s why we do what we do, to make moments like this.

Wonder and knowledge, together.
